POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Digital Communications Specialist conceptualizes, designs and creates engaging digital and social media content to promote the mission and brand of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS). This position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to produce and disseminate strategic and innovative content for digital communications channels with an emphasis on social media management, e-marketing, website design, and video production. The Digital Communications Specialist also stewards the SBCSS Brand Ambassadors program. Key to this position are strong photography and videography skills with editing experience. The Digital Communications Specialist also provides audio visual set-up for events, conducts photoshoots, and provides creative and technical support for multimedia projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Recommends, designs and produces digital and social media content to promote the programs and services of SBCSS to internal and external audiences through the creation of multimedia presentations, videos, websites, podcasts, blogs, marketing materials, publications, resource notebooks, newsletters, visual displays and other materials; • Facilitates the Brand Ambassadors program to provide a network of SBCSS sources to collect timely story content for distribution on digital platforms; • Updates and maintains the SBCSS digital and social media communications plans; • Strategically grows the presence of SBCSS on digital outlets by monitoring engagement and analyzing metrics of content posted to social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo, and Instagram; • Transfers video and graphical images among various forms of media (e.g. print, video, internet, digital camera); • Photographs and videotapes virtual and in-person events, programs and activities for branding, marketing and messaging purposes; • Produces and edits video and multimedia content for delivery to internal and external audiences; • Develops on-brand templates for presentations, newsletters, website pages, social media graphics, and other digital assets; • Catalogues and maintains library of multimedia presentations, graphic images, photos, video and other digital assets and resources; • Collaborates with vendors and contractors for the development of print, video and other multi-media materials when needed; • Researches current and emerging technology to advance the development and delivery of digital content through innovative mediums; • Provides creative and technical support to staff and others that includes setting-up multimedia equipment; • Conducts digital communications, social media, and multimedia professional development and presentations; • Trains staff; • Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience with video production/editing; photography; social media management; e-marketing; designing and developing graphics, multimedia presentations, marketing materials, e-newsletters, and other digital publications; maintaining websites; using graphic layout software and other visual media applications; covering virtual and in-person events; Skill in the use of PC and MAC computer systems, mobile devices and a variety of digital design, mobile APPs, and video/photo editing software applications; creating and posting digital content to web and social media sites; using applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, YouTube Studio, and other web-based Content Management Systems; Knowledge of principles and theory of graphic design, techniques and methods used to create digital content including videos, public relations and marketing techniques; Ability to integrate design concepts across multiple digital communication platforms; manage project design from inception to completion with established timelines; work successfully on multiple projects; interpret user needs related to design and multimedia projects; understand and utilize high-end scanners, printers and digital cameras; work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write and publish concise copy in a fast-paced environment; have strong interpersonal, collaboration, and presentation skills; function effectively as part of a team; exercise sound judgment; travel to various locations; and work evenings and weekends; Physical Abilities include sitting and standing for extended periods, lifting, reaching, handling, pushing, pulling, fine manual dexterity, talking/hearing, near and far visual acuity, depth perception, color vision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Two (2) years experience designing and developing graphics, multimedia presentations, videos, websites, visual displays, marketing materials, publications and other materials; • Two (2) years experience designing and creating digital content for posting to websites, social media campaigns and e-marketing purposes; • Two (2) years experience producing and editing digital video and multimedia content for presentations and events; • One (1) year experience facilitating multimedia trainings and/or events; • Possession of a high school diploma (or its equivalency) or higher or possession of a GED.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts or a closely related field; • Additional experience working with a variety of graphic, video and web-based software applications (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Motion, PowerPoint and Joomla); • One (1) year experience in a California school district or County Office of Education.
